Students to Spend Spring Break Rebuilding New Orleans (3/4/2007)

Ten Holy Family University students will fly to New Orleans March 4 to help
rebuild homes and a church in St. Bernard Parish, which was devastated by
Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.

Holy Family students will join up to 300 other college students from across
the nation working to rebuild communities in New Orleans during spring break
as part of Habitat for Humanity's Collegiate Challenge program
(www.habitat-nola.org).

Holy Family students will remain in New Orleans through March 10 and will be
chaperoned by Assistant Director of Activities and Wellness Ashley Sbarbaro
and Professor Megan Meyer.

While working in the St. Bernard community, the Holy Family students will
lodge at Camp Hope, an elementary school building that was converted into
temporary lodging just outside of New Orleans.

At least 1,836 people were killed by the hurricane and resulting flood that
destroyed 80 percent of the city, according to published reports. After 17
months, the region still struggles to recover.

Students are looking forward to playing their part in the rebuilding effort
and learning first-hand of the lives changed by this historic natural
disaster.
