Governor Blanco secures Presidential declaration for Jefferson, Orleans and St. Martin parishes 


BATON ROUGE - President George W. Bush today issued a federal disaster declaration requested by Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco for Orleans, Jefferson and St. Martin parishes. Gov. Blanco expressed appreciation for the declaration.

Statement by Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco:

"Today the President issued federal disaster declarations I requested for Louisianans whose homes and businesses were recently damaged by severe weather. Many of these citizens will now have access to federal assistance for their immediate needs. The recent storms were devastating, especially for those still working to rebuild after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. While traveling through communities impacted by this weather, I met families who were only recently able to move back into their homes and are now starting from scratch yet again. This federal assistance will help them get through this difficult time. I thank the President for his action and have directed my Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness to coordinate our efforts with those of the federal government to ensure the needs of our citizens are met."
