Sales Tax - 
 
According to my friend, a state licensed General Contractor, sales tax can
only be applied to materials used in performing the job. Sales tax is also
applicable to any rental charges for rental of equipment to perform the job.
 
He did state that invoices will sometimes state "sales tax included".  His
suggestion is to ask the provided to break down the invoice.
 
The proper method is to list material total, sales tax applicable to
material, and total of labor charged.
 
He also stated that there are subs that will apply sales tax to the entire
total which does not follow state tax regulations and should be disputed.
