Deborah, thanks so much for that information. I knew that there used to be
somebody in St. Bernard, and I couldn't remember the name. If he is no
longer there, I'll look outside the Parish. The other information about
using a licensed surveyor, and where I can check that, was very helpful.

The only professionals that can provide you with a certified floor elevation
certificate is a LA licensed, professional surveyor. Look in the yellow
pages under surveyors. The only one we had in St. Bernard was Steve
Estopinal, and he is working for another company in B.R., last I heard from
him. Any licensed firm will do a good job. DO NOT PAY ANYONE WHO JUST HAS
THE INSTRUMENTS. Many people who work in construction have the
instrumentation and knowledge to set elevations and stake out property lines
in order to build a project, without being
a licensed professional surveyor, many of whom are also licensed civil
engrs.
It's the difference between using a CPA and a bookeeper. For legal reasons
and insurance coverage you're wasting your money if it's not a licensed
surveyor who will stamp the certificate with their name and LA license no.
You can check on their current registration at www.lapels.com
<http://www.lapels.com> , click the link for roster of registered firms as
it is the licensing board for all engineers and surveyors in LA who have a
license to practice. Only those who are licensed surveyors can put PLS
behind their names if a surveyor or PE if an engineer. Deborah Keller, PE
