Each year, more than 15,000 inmates complete their sentences in a state or parish prison and return to communities across Louisiana. A telling sign of whether they will return to prison again is their success at finding and keeping a job. The stigma of having a felony record is a big impediment in landing steady employment. Another is lack of education. On average, Louisiana inmates have the skills of a 6th grader.
