St. Bernard Council asks corps to take on another levee

The St. Bernard Parish Council has asked the Corps of Engineers to take over
the levee lining the 40-Arpent Canal through the parish.

The council would like the corps to not only take over the levee, but also
raise it to 17.5 feet. It is now 10 feet high.

A corps spokesman said Tuesday at the council's meeting in Chalmette that
the agency is considering the request and will complete a feasibility study
in July probing the issue.
