A 19-year-old was stabbed to death in the first slaying in St. Bernard
Parish in almost two years.

The victim, Frederick Luwisch of St. Bernard Parish, and Merlin Brown, 20,
of 2313 Bobolink Drive, were arguing over a woman about 6 p.m. Friday in the
2300 block of Bobolink, said Col. Richard Baumy of the Sheriff's Office.
He said Brown grabbed a kitchen knife from his truck and stabbed Luwisch
once in the chest. Luwisch collapsed and died.
Brown remained at the scene later giving a statement to police admitting he
fought with Luwisch and stabbed him. He was booked with second-degree
murder.
The men had known each other for several years, Baumy said.
Newspaper reports show the incident to be the first reported slaying in the
parish since an apparent double murder-suicide linked to a love-triangle
dispute on July 11, 2005.
