BLANCO TRACK: Session Update for Thursday, June 21, 2007;Today's progress on Governor Blanco's agenda to Strengthen Louisiana's Future
BATON ROUGE - The following bills in Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco's legislative package advanced in the legislature today, including key components of the Blanco-Donelon legislative package to provide affordable insurance:
Senate Bill 153 - Depopulation of Citizens Insurance by Competitive Bid
* Sponsored by Senator Reggie Dupre
* This bill requires Citizens Insurance Corporation to bundle their policies for removal to the private market and reduces the state's risk exposure.
* Approved by the House of Representatives, heads to the Senate for approval of amendments.
Senate Bill 204 -Statewide Deductible Ranges
* Sponsored by Senator Donald R. Cravins, Jr.
* This bill allows insurance companies to set deductibles based on the location of property rather than applying the same deductible across the state.
* Approved by the House of Representatives, heads to the Senate for approval of amendments.
Senate Bill 205 -Consumer Bill of Rights
* Sponsored by Senator Donald R. Cravins, Jr.
* This bill creates a consumer bill of rights and an office of consumer advocacy in the Department of Insurance.

House Bill 960 - Insurance Rating Commission (formerly House Bill 860)

* This bill abolishes the Insurance Rating Commission.

House Bill 240 - Truck and Trailer Exemption
* Sponsored by Rep. Taylor Townsend
* This bill clarifies the sales and use tax exemption for certain trucks and trailers used in interstate commerce.
* Louisiana's ports are the gateway to the world and our trucking industry facilitates the movement of many products in interstate commerce. This bill keeps our trucking companies competitive with neighboring states.
* Approved by the Senate, heads to the House of Representatives for approval of amendments.
House Bill 542- Louisiana Children and Youth Health Insurance Program
* Sponsored by Representative Monica Walker and Senator Diana Bajoie
* This bill improves enrollment and expands access to LaCHIP, the Louisiana Children's Health Insurance Program.
* Approved by the Senate Finance Committee, heads to the full Senate for further consideration.
House Concurrent Resolution 10 - FY 2007-08 Expenditure Limit

* This legislation raises the expenditure limit for Fiscal Year FY 2006-2007 to fully fund the expenditures in HB 765.
