Gulf Coast small business owners who missed last July's application deadline
for the U.S. Small Business Administration's Economic Injury Disaster Loans
have another opportunity to apply, SBA Administrator Steven Preston said.
A bill signed into law by President Bush on May 25 authorizes the SBA to
offer Economic Injury Disaster Loans to Gulf Coast small business owners who
suffered economic injury in the aftermath of the hurricanes that devastated
the region in 2005.
The working capital disaster loans have a cap of $1.5 million at a 4 percent
interest rate with up to 30-year terms. Businesses that received loans in
the earlier application period must count those loans toward the overall
$1.5 million cap. And only small businesses in operation when Hurricanes
Dennis, Katrina, Rita and Wilma struck are eligible to apply for the loans.
Applications forms and free assistance for applicants are available at local
SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Centers. Those centers are located at:
1250 Poydras St., 14th floor, New Orleans. Hours of operation: 9 a.m. to 5
p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
8101 West Judge Perez Drive in the northeast corner of the WalMart parking
lot, Chalmette. Hours of operation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday;
