Well, I didn't want to say this and prematurely blame the victim, but I was 
thinking maybe someone in the household or someone working on the house 
introduced the mercury into the house.  I remember as a child a friend of 
mine who's father was some sort of industrial worker, got a bottle of 
mercury from his work truck and was playing with it.  She said look how cool

it is, the way it would bead up and we all held it in our hands not knowing 
the danger it could pose to us.  I had a ring on my finger and it changed 
the gold to a different color.  I now know how dangerous that was and it 
should have been locked away from children.  Maybe some worker brought 
something with mercury into the house and it got broken and they just didn't

say anything or clean it up properly.  With all the out of towners and 
shotty work going on, this could be a possibility.  Still, it's a horrible 
situation.
