Regarding the Clerk of Court office
There are two computers when you walk in the door on the right side of the
office that are for the public's use. You have limited time so others don't
have to wait, if there are others wanting to use it. It is a name search
program. For example, if you want to see if someone bought a house, type in
the last name of the last owner you knew of. Hit the search all category.
You'll get a list of all those last names, for all transactions, which may
help you remember the person's first name. Next to each name is the type of
document on file. Remember it can take a few months for the action to be
input into the computer system. I suggest you start with your own name. You
can see if anyone has put a lien on your property, who you bought and sold
property with, mortgages you have had, and a lot of other things on record
with the Clerk of Court, including traffic tickets. It gets more involved if
you only know an address which is why getting LRA to provide the parish with
its pr operty buyout info to post on their website is a huge step forward.
