Two men have been booked in connection with the theft of copper tubing and
pipes from a gutted business in Arabi, St. Bernard Parish authorities said.

The Sheriff's Office said a deputy on patrol noticed a truck outside the
gutted business on Norton Street. As the deputy slowed, he noticed a man
exit the building and put a hacksaw in the back of a truck, which was filled
with copper tubing.

A second man was still inside the building. The owner of the business was
contacted by deputies and told them he had not given anyone permission to
the enter the building and did not know the two men, Anthony Thomas, 49, of
7923 Benson St., New Orleans and David Hyde, 50, 1322 St. Ann St., New
Orleans.

When deputies questioned the men, Thomas told them he had gotten the copper
from his mother's house. However, when asked the address of his mother's
house he allegedly told deputies he did not know it, a Sheriff's Office news
release said. Hyde, meanwhile, told deputies the pair took the copper from
several locations on Norton Street, the release said.

Thomas and Hyde were booked with theft over $500, criminal damage to
property and criminal trespassing in connection with the July 13 incident.
