Baker secures $500K toward LA 42 and LA 16 road improvements

WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Richard Baker, R-Baton Rouge, secured $250,000 apiece toward improvements for LA 42 and LA 16 as part of transportation appropriation legislation that passed the House of Representatives last night.

The total cost of a comprehensive improvement plan for LA 42 is estimated at $25 million, but the new $250,000 federal funding may be used for safety improvements along this Ascension parish road that has seen continuous safety problems.

The $250,000 for LA 16 would go toward widening the two-mile section of the road from two lanes to four lanes from Denham Springs to Watson.

Baker, a senior member of the House transportation committee, intends to seek greater federal funding toward both projects in the next highway bill, which is expected next year.
