WATCH LIVE: LRA Board Member Kim Boyle to Testify Before U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce on Health Care Recovery


WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 1, 2007) - Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) Board Member and Chair of the LRA Health Care Committee will testify this morning at 9:30 a.m. ET before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations to discuss the challenges facing Louisiana's Health Care system in the wake of the hurricanes of 2005.

Boyle's testimony will address the monumental importance of the planned joint Medical Center of Louisiana (MCLNO) and Veterans Affairs (VA) medical center in downtown New Orleans to the sustainability of Louisiana's health care system reiterate. It will also serve as an opportunity to reiterate Louisiana's request for Congress' help to address the immediate barriers that continue to plague the comprehensive restoration of health care services in the New Orleans region.

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated South Louisiana, claiming 1,464 lives, destroying more than 200,000 homes and 18,000 businesses. The Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) is the planning and coordinating body that was created in the aftermath of these storms by Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco to lead one of the most extensive rebuilding efforts in the world. The LRA is a 33-member body which is coordinating across jurisdictions, supporting community recovery and resurgence, ensuring integrity and effectiveness, and planning for the recovery and rebuilding of Louisiana.
