This is a great story, I just picked up the AARP magazine from the PO box
yesterday evening.
Working in that type of environment and having evacuated longterm residents
myself, then receiving them further north from Katrina AND Rita, now still
having them and still getting them, this article strikes quite a chord with
me. Idleness and stiff knees. So sad. There need to be more funds, higher
staffing ratios, much improved training and preparation for workers in
longterm care. Too often this area of healthcare is the least worried about,
yet the most complained about, most regulated, and outwardly least
rewarding. So these things inadvertently happen, although they should never
happen.
These people need the most care, the most attention, and of course more
funding to provide such, in order to truly maintain their highest level of
well being. A difficult task, and thanks to Katrina, we hear their voices
loudly now. I hope and pray that such stories will play a part in improving
the response to these needs.
Thanks for putting the link on here.
