[StBernard] News from Louisiana Seafood

I'll tell you what would be "real" news from Louisiana Seafood...to learn
the riduculous ban on commercially fishing Red fish and spec trout is
lifted. Sports fishermen used the marine biologist to convince the state
their numbers were dangerously low and needed to be removed from the
commercial list of fish that can be caught. But now that the very same
marine biologist are saying that the number of reds and specs are so
plentiful to the point where they now disrupt the marine-eco system
(destroying oyster beds, etc.), but the sports fishermen don't want to hear
anything of it - now that they've got their cake and can eat it too.

Like other states, Louisiana could easily have a controlled short commercial
season on reds and specs, either by a time period or quota of the cumulative
reported catch, and both sides could be happy - which would truly be in the
best interest of all. I hate it when one group exerts its political
influence over another for its own selfish end.

Most happy will be the Louisiana consumer who could easily find reds and
specs in a restaurant and without having to pay three arms and two legs for
it. Hopefully, our next governor will put his foot down and put an end to
the absurd fishing laws in this state.
