The Council for A Better Louisiana on Thursday posted on its Web site the
answers the four best-known candidates for governor gave to 27 questions
about issues facing the state.

The survey queried the candidates on issues such as, lower and higher
education, business and job growth, fiscal responsibility and tax structure,
health care, public safety and coast restoration.

"Some candidates have lengthy answers to questions. Others are short. Some
answers might appear nonresponsive," CABL President Barry Erwin said of
Baton Rouge in a prepared statement.

"One of the most interesting things about the survey is that voters really
can look at the responses and differentiate among candidates," he said.

The primary is Oct. 20.

The top contenders are Democrat state Sen. Walter Boasso of Arabi; Public
Service Commissioner Foster Campbell of Bossier Parish, a Democrat;
Republican John Georges, a New Orleans-area businessman; and Republican U.S.
Rep. Bobby Jindal of Kenner.

Founded in 1962, CABL is a nonprofit organization that reviews state
government issues and activities.

Its directors include executives with banks, insurance companies, utilities,
universities, economic development organizations and the lawyers who
represent them.

The surveys are available at http://www.cabl.org.
