BATON ROUGE, La. - The city of New Orleans has stopped receiving funds from
the state because it has failed to submit an audit of its finances.
Legislative Auditor Steve Theriot said the city missed a deadline and has
been placed on a so-called "noncompliant" list. That means the city failed
to provide the financial information required by law to receive state funds.

The state treasurer's office, which issues such funding, said one check has
already been blocked: $900,000 the city receives quarterly for police, fire
and other services associated with the land-based casino near the French
Quarter.

Theriot said the city will be removed from the list, and funding will
resume, as soon as the financial materials are provided.
