Parish officials and residents will gather in Chalmette later this morning
to mark the formal reopening of the St. Bernard Parish Library at 7701 W.
Judge Perez Drive in Arabi.

The ceremony, which will include representatives of the Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation, begins at 11:30 a.m.

All the parish's libraries were swamped during Hurricane Katrina.

The temporary library is in a 24-foot-by- 60-foot building provided by the
Gates Foundation. The foundation also provided 10 computers, wireless
internet and money to help build a collection and cover utilities and
salaries, a St. Bernard Parish government news release said. The Meraux
Foundation permitted the library to use its property for the duration of the
grant, the news release said.

Current library hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and
Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The phone number is (504) 279-0448.
