NEW ORLEANS - The city has advised drivers ? specifically those who park in
The French Quarter ? that a parking ordinance will soon be enforced in The
French Quarter. Crossing the law could come with stiff penalties, city
officials said.

On Tuesdays, there will be no parking allowed on the streets running
perpendicular to the river from 8 a.m. through Noon.

On Thursdays, the street parking ban is in effect on the French Quarter
streets that run parallel to the river.

The rules are being enforced to let street sweepers access the area.

Leaving a car parked on those streets during those times could lead to it
being towed, according to Department of Public Works Director Robert
Mendoza.

Besides street sweeping, the parking ban will allow city workers to inspect
manholes and drainage pipes in the Quarter.
