Two die in murder-suicide

A Chalmette man apparently shot his girlfriend to death and then killed
himself in their home yesterday afternoon, according to a St. Bernard Parish
Sheriff's Office spokesman. 

They were identified as Melanie Doran, 52, and Lawrence McCall, 51, of 1204
Wisconsin St., said Deputy Chief Richard Baumy. 

The bodies were discovered about 3:30 p.m. Saturday by Doran's sister, who
had come to the house to visit her sister, Baumy said. 

Doran's body was found in the bathroom, and McCall was found just outside
the bathroom, Baumy said. He said both suffered a gunshot wound to the head.


Baumy quoted Doran's sister as saying Doran and McCall had lived together
for a couple of years, but there was no indication of any problems between
the couple. They had no children, Baumy said.
