St. Bernard Sportsmen's League's Joseph C. Fecke Memorial Scholarship
Applicants Being Sought


The St. Bernard Sportsmen's League has begun accepting applications for it's
annual scholarship award. The 4 year scholarship of $1,000. per year is
awarded to a resident of St. Bernard or East Bank Plaquemine Parish for the
purpose of financial educational assistance that will lead to the
advancement in the areas of ecological studies; Ecology, Conservation,
Biology or Botany. By awarding the scholarship, the league strives to
promote literacy in basic ecological concepts for awareness of ecological
and conservation issues.

The mission statement of the League is to "protect, preserve and enhance our
environment and to promote the wise use of our land, water and wildlife for
the benefit of current and future generations".

The applicants parents or legal guardian must be a resident physically
residing in St. Bernard or East Plaquemine Parish. The applicant must be
accepted to or already enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate seeking
program and have a cumulative 2.5 GPA. Some financial limitations apply. The
scholarship is available to high school seniors or those already in college.
The applicant must submit a short essay along with their application.

The deadline for application is March 31, 2008. Application packets are
available at local high schools and Nunez Community college. For more
