Chalmette High School recently played host to 60 students from Syracuse,
N.Y.

This group is a self-organized association that originated in Syracuse and
focuses on rebuilding houses and combining the cultures of Syracuse and St.
Bernard Parish. Their goal is to give people a better understanding of
everyday life post-Katrina.

During their visit, each Syracuse delegate was paired with a Chalmette High
"ambassador" and spent lunch and the last half of the day touring the school
grounds. They also walked through the gutted home of Chalmette High teacher
Charles Cassar.

There are tentative plans for another group of students from Syracuse to
visit in mid-April.

Members of CHS Voices, the school's choir, visited New York Feb. 29 through
March 3.

The students, as well as chorus director Peggy Wegener and several parents,
traveled to the theater district, Times Square, and the Statue of Liberty on
Ellis Island.

CHS Voices, along with about 300 other students, also sang at Carnegie Hall
during the trip.

CHS Live, the school's drama club, will hold a VIP Night for its production
of "The King and I" on April 17. The opening night for the public is April
18.

For information, call the school at (504) 301-2600.

Chalmette High seniors will travel to Orlando, Fla., on March 23 for their
senior trip. Disney World, Universal Studios and the Islands of Adventures
are all destinations on their itinerary.

Twenty-three Chalmette High Latin students are preparing to take this year's
National Latin Exam, with Latin I and Latin II teacher Jennifer Gioia as
their coach. The exam focuses on the Roman culture, mythology (both Greek
and Latin), and, of course, the Latin language.
