mention that.

U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) is now facing the biggest threat in his
political career. The revelations of virulent, anti-American rhetoric from
his pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright has raised disturbing questions about
Obama. For many years, Obama and Wright have shared a very close personal
relationship. The pastor married Obama and his wife and baptized his
children. Wright inspired Obama's bestseller "The Audacity of Hope" and
counseled with the Senator before he entered the presidential race.

Obama now claims that he does not share Wright's views, yet many Americans
are probably wondering whether Obama or his wife truly agree with any of
Wright's anti-American hatred. According to investigative journalist Ronald
Kessler, Wright has blamed this country for "starting the AIDS virus,
training professional killers, importing drugs and creating a racist society
that would never elect a black candidate president." From the pulpit, Wright
has thundered "God damn America" and blamed this country the 9/11 attacks
and he has called the controversial opinions of Nation of Islam leader Louis
Farrakhan "helpful and honest."

Obama has tried to distance himself from Wright and now states that Wright
is like "an old uncle who sometimes will say things that I don't agree
with." Yet, that statement seems disingenuous because how can Obama distance
himself from a pastor that he has known for 20 years?

In weekend interviews, Obama maintained that he was never in church when
Wright made his notorious comments. Yet that statement has now been
challenged by freelance journalist Jim Davis, who was in the Trinity United
Church of Christ in Chicago on July 22 and witnessed Barack Obama in
attendance. On that day, Wright blamed the "white arrogance" of America for
the problems of the world and the "oppression of blacks." Obama did not
leave the church when Wright began blasting "white America." In fact, he
said through the entire service, expressing no obvious disagreement.

Now that Obama has been shown to be deceitful about his connection to
Wright, what effect will this have on the presidential race? It can do
nothing but hurt Obama. His poll numbers among white voters are dropping and
that is not surprising. Many voters are probably wondering if Obama shares
the views of his close associate and former pastor. Michelle Obama has
already made controversial comments about this country and said that she was
not proud of this country until her husband started running for President.

The views of Reverend Wright are anathema to the vast majority of Americans.
The longer the Wright controversy dominates the news, the better the chances
are for Hillary Clinton to stage a comeback. Barack Obama is surely hoping
that his story fades from the headlines very soon.
