Army Corps Inspects Levees

NEW ORLEANS - The Army Corps of Engineers inspected levees along the Bonne
Carre Spillway Monday, checking for problems that could result from a rising
Mississippi River. As the river rises, the current speeds up, increasing the
danger of ship collisions and barges breaking away. 

The river is expected to crest at 16.5 feet in early April. 

The Corps Of Engineers plans to patrol the river every other day for the
next two weeks. 

Individuals who see a potential problem along a levee are asked to call the
Corps at 502-862-2201.
