The St. Bernard Parish Council has chosen Polly Boudreaux of Meraux to fill
the at-large east post on an interim basis.

The council voted Tuesday night to appoint Boudreaux, a former clerk of the
council, to the seat left vacant when Councilman Tony "Ricky'' Melerine
resigned last month.

Boudreaux currently is the pre-GED reading teacher at C.F. Rowley
Alternative School. Prior to becoming clerk of council for St. Bernard
Parish government from 2004-2007, she had worked for the St. Bernard Parish
public school system as a teacher and administrator.

Boudreaux will hold the at-large east post until an October election is held
to fill the remaining three-plus years in Melerine's term. Melerine, who won
the at-large post last fall, cited health issues in resigning.

The council, in seeking applicants to fill Melerine's seat on an interim
basis, said whoever was chosen for the job would not be eligible to seek the
post in the fall election.
