St. Bernard Sheriff's Office unveils web sex offender registry

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office website now offers a link for
tracking the whereabouts of registered sex offenders living in the parish,
the sheriff's office said in a news release Monday. 

The website, www.sbso.org, has a section called "sex offender search'' that
allows users to input an address and see a map listing the names and
pictures of registered sex offenders living within one mile of that
location. The site also allows users to input an address and receive an
email from the sheriff's office notifying them if a sex offender registers
at an address within a one-mile radius. 

In addition to providing the public with increased information, the program
will enable the sheriff's office to verify that sex offender addresses do
not violate any safety buffers implemented around schools, day cares and
churches, Sheriff Jack Stephens said in the news release.
