Community Health Clinic Opens in New Orleans East


A new clinic operated by Charity Hospital has opened at 5501 Read Boulevard
in New Orleans East. The clinic will provide preventative care, acute
primary care, prenatal care and link patients to mental-health care,
including counseling and affordable medications. Walk-ins will be
accommodated, but the clinic prefers patients to make an appointment by

Free Computer Classes at the Community Center of St. Bernard


The Community Center of St. Bernard is currently offering free 5-week
computer classes. Participants can choose between Tuesday evening or
Thursday morning sessions. The next round of classes will begin on May 20,

Louisiana Sales Tax Holiday for Hurricane Preparedness


Louisiana residents can purchase needed items free of sales tax as they
prepare for the 2008 hurricane season. The inaugural 2008 Hurricane
Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday takes place on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday,
May 25. The holiday is an annual, statewide event created by the Louisiana
Legislature to assist families with the important job of protecting their
