"Just wondering: IF the parish estimate is about 32,000 total how can we
have 37,500 registered voters {after removing 5,500}?? --SJK"

It's no secret that governments "beef up" the rolls to qualify for funding,
etc. Perhaps in 2010 (the census year), we'll have more of an idea what the
makeup of the 'new' St. Bernard parish will encompass, the population
numbers, and whatever info is needed to qualify more faithfully (and
legally). Somehow numbers seem to be inflated here.

The result is a dizzying list of just over 5,500 names -- almost 13 percent
of the 43,000 registered voters pre-Katrina -- to be removed from the rolls.
