ST. BERNARD BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S CLUB GENERAL MEETING
 
The St. Bernard Business and Professional Women’s Club will hold its next meeting at Monday, June 16 at 6 p.m. at the Council on Aging office, 8201 West Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette. Featured guests are the recipients of the 2008 college scholarships the club recently awarded to three graduates of Chalmette High School. 

 “Following the scholarship presentation, the meeting will focus on “What St. Bernard Women Want,” says club president, Deborah Keller. “There are activities that the club has sponsored for nearly 50 years, and some that we have continued even in the past two difficult years since the storm. As we begin our new club year, we want to hear from the women of the parish as to what we should focus our time, talent, and resources towards as we remain true to our mission.”

 “In May, the club resumed its monthly meeting schedule. We feel the time is right for the women of our area to turn the many issues we face beyond returning and recovery. Some of our members are living outside the parish now, but our club is their connection to the family, friends, and business associates that are here. Meetings are geared for women at any phases in life. Members range in age from college students to senior citizens, with a common bond of their womanhood.”

The National Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW/USA) is a leading advocate for working women. Founded in 1919, it addresses issues that affect their personal lives, such as health care and finances, and their professional careers, for those in the work force. The St. Bernard local organization, chartered in 1961, has provided such programs as the annual St. Bernard Man and Woman of the Year banquet, National Business Women’s Week, college scholarships for outstanding female graduates from parish high schools, leadership and professional training workshops, and the De La Ronde Cotillion.
