A St. Bernard Parish man was arrested Monday after sheriff's deputies found
$15,000 worth of high-potency marijuana and an "unusual" homemade growing
system in his apartment.

Antonio Fletes, 25, was booked with manufacture of marijuana, possession of
a half pound of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana
and illegal possession of a handgun while in possession of a controlled
dangerous substance.

The hydroponics growing system seized is water-based, and speeds up the
growth of the plants, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff Jack Stephens said in a
release.

Maj. Chad Clark, head of the of Sheriff's Office Special Investigations
Division, cited another arrest last week for possession of high-potency
marijuana along with other recent arrests as evidence this problem might be
growing in St. Bernard.

The investigation in Fletes' case is ongoing.
