John,

You're kidding me right?!!!!! There are a number of differences but some
similarities as well. Have you watched the same news 've been
watching....I've been watching people say they didn't need to have flood
insurance because the Army Corp promised them a 100 year levee and gave them
something less..., I can bet if you count the number of people who
evacuated, it was a lot less than left New Orleans, AND AND AND some people
only left because the police were knocking at their door because the water
was rising. The biggest difference though is this- The average income of
people in the area 45,000....the average income of a person from the 9th
ward- 10,000....ST. Bernard 35,000. These people weren't in or had to fight
CONTRAFLOW, these people had 4 directions to go, they didn't have hotels
price gouging, gas stations price gouging, etc. They had a mere 20,000
people evacuate and many are asking how are hey going to rebuild, many
claiming they will not return....HUGE difference, somewhere in the
neighborhood of 980,000 people less, and no second flooding six weeks later
AND all of the experience on how to deal with flood ravage homes thank to
Katrina. Many groups coming in already know how to do things and time is of
te essence as we all know. FORTUNATELY, they had that on their side.

Subject: Comparison of Des Moines & New Orleans...

When New Orleans flooded, it was touted by the media as a racist
plan to wipe out black people. Now that white people are getting flooded
out, the media needs to investigate, right? But who?

I heard a dimwit talking head on CNN yesterday say that this
reminded him of New Orleans. How?

Outside of being flooded with water the similarity stops there.
There is no looting, no people wandering the streets looking for meanness,
no grocery carts being shoved through the water carrying stolen big screen
TVs, no people sitting on the tops of their houses waiting on the government
to come and get them, or police abandoning their posts.

There are no Iowans bitching how the government and George Bush is
failing them. There is not one damn thing, other than water, that is similar
to New Orleans.

The streets in Des Moines are empty. People left when they were told
to evacuate. They didn't whine, bitch or blame the government for the broken
levees. They did what responsible people do in a crisis, they acted
responsibly and took care of themselves.

The actions of the people of Des Moines only makes the actions of
the people of New Orleans look like what it was.....people of several
generations lulled into a total dependency on government unable/unwilling to
depend upon themselves to save themselves or do anything for themselves
except act as criminals and thugs.
