St. Bernard to test emergency sirens

Don't be alarmed if you hear sirens in St. Bernard Parish this Thursday,
July 10.

Residents who have heard them say the warnings are hard to ignore.

The St. Bernard Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency
Preparedness will be conducting tests of the siren system, which is part of
the parish's emergency notification. 

"It is just a test. When people hear them, they can go to the parish AM
radio station at 1680 to confirm it is a test," says Craig Taffaro, St.
Bernard Parish President.  Taffaro says some testing happened Tuesday, but
that prolonged testing will happen Thursday. 

The parish says the emergency notification system is up to speed, but that
homeland security is making tweaks.
