South Louisiana Economic Council to Launch Aggressive Marketing to Attract
New Industry to the Bayou Region

Bayou Region - August 20, 2008

The South Louisiana Economic Council, (SLEC) in conjunction with its
regional economic development partners; Lafourche Economic Development, St.
Mary Economic Development, Assumption Police Jury Economic Development
Committee, the Greater Lafourche Port Commission and Louisiana Economic
Development, will launch a national recruiting campaign designed to attract
new industry into the Bayou Region economy. Under the direction of the
internationally-recognized site selection firm, Whittaker Associates of
Holland, MI, a targeted list of 200 companies has been identified for
contact. The list of 200 companies have been systematically pre-screened
using scientific methodologies developed by Whittaker Associates, and are
known to have a need to relocate, and an interest in relocating to the
Southeastern United States. The companies selected are also screened to
match the natural advantages of the Bayou Region and include companies from
a list of target industries including: plastic product manufacturing;
professional, technical and scientific services; bio-fuels and energy
production; chemical manufacturing; metal fabrication; aerospace parts
manufacturing; food manufacturing; tourism and hospitality; intermodal
logistics; film, arts, music and entertainment; and natural resource based
industry.

According to Vic Lafont, SLEC CEO, "The Bayou Region offers incredible
advantages for companies seeking to relocate. Our economy is one of the
strongest in the nation right now and companies from other states certainly
have taken notice. This program of targeted recruiting is designed to not
only strengthen the economic base of our region, but to continue to add
diversity to our industrial mix by bringing in companies that compliment the
industries already in place here."

The project will be managed on a regional basis through the cooperation of
the Bayou Region Economic Development Committee, a group of the
participating professional economic developers from the Bayou Region.
