ST. BERNARD PARISH TO COMMEMORATE
THE THIRD ANNIVERSARY OF HURRICANE KATRINA
All events will be held as planned on Friday



St. Bernard Parish is holding several events in the early part of the day on
Friday, Aug. 29 to mark the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's
landfall with this year's focus being on the resurgence of the community's
spirit and the ongoing recovery. All of those events are being held as
planned.

The public is invited to all of the day's events. They are:

7:30 a.m.

Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church will observe the third anniversary with a
reunion/memorial Mass at 7:30 a.m. celebrated by the Most Reverend Shelton
J. Fabre, an Auxiliary Bishop of New Orleans. The church is located at 2320
Paris Road in Chalmette. Refreshments, sponsored by the Archbishop Janssen
Knights of Columbus 3068, will be served in the school gym after Mass.

8:30-10 a.m.

The St. Bernard School Board will hold its third annual Day of Reflection
Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in the Chalmette High School Gymnasium at 1100 E.
Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette. This year's theme is "Be Somebody's Hero."
The event is open to the public. Tickets cost $5 a person. For information
or tickets, call 301-2000 or go to the School Board Administration Office at
200 E. St. Bernard Highway in Chalmette.

11-11:30 a.m.

St. Bernard Parish Government will hold a Katrina Commemorative Service at
11 a.m. at Shell Beach where officials will rededicate the Katrina Monument
and with its updated list of victims' names. The St. Bernard Parish
Sheriff's Department will direct traffic to park in an off-street parking
area near the Yscloskey bridge, and a St. Bernard Urban Rural Transit bus
will bring visitors directly to the monument at the Mississippi River-Gulf
Outlet.

12:20 p.m.

School and parish officials, students and residents will gather at Chalmette
High School for a noon-time bell-ringing sponsored by Channel 4 - WWL TV.
