A seven-hour standoff with a man wanted on domestic violence charges who had
barricaded himself inside his Chalmette home and threatened suicide, ended
without injuries Monday about 7 p.m. after the man gave himself up to St.
Bernard sheriff's deputies.

The impasse prompted deputies to evacuate two neighboring homes and close
the street for much of the afternoon.

Lance Webb, who a sheriff's spokesman said was in his late 20s, was booked
into the St. Bernard jail on misdemeanor charges of illegal carrying of
weapons, resisting arrest and resisting arrest by flight from an officer.

The standoff at Webb's home in the 2600 block of Chalona Drive began about
noon. Throughout the afternoon negotiators stood on the front porch, talking
to the Webb through a window, said Chief Deputy Jimmy Pohlmann of the St.
Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office.

Webb had taped a knife to each wrist and was threatening to kill himself,
Pohlmann said.

Deputies went to the Webb's home Monday shortly before noon after receiving
a tip that he was wanted on domestic violence charges in New Orleans,
Pohlmann said.

No one answered the door, but he drove up a short time later. Deputies
stopped his car in the street, and Webb bolted into the house, locking the
front door behind him, Pohlmann said.

Deputies do not think he had a gun, but they evacuated two adjacent homes as
a precaution, Pohlmann said.
