What I'd like to know is how did Tangipahoa Parish residents qualify for
re-election? There is a real problem with a sitting judge purporting to
reside in St Bernard Parish.

Unfortunately too often the residents are burdened with accepting the
violations or filing law suits.

JD,

Being a deputy doesn't disqualify him from being able to run for the office.
However, if elected, as in his case, he will have to resign from being a
deputy before being sworn in.

Much like trying to make sure everyone has an opportunity to vote, the
courts also try to make sure everyone has an opportunity to run for office.

And no, when you file qualification papers, they do not ask current
employment since it is not an issue of being qualified. It may be an ethics
issue, but when has ethics ever stopped a politician?
