St. Bernard officials honor those in Recreation Department Karate Program

Five students and their coach will attend a first-of-its-kind grassroots
program at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Co. in late
November

 

St.  Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro Jr. and the Parish Council
honored the St. Bernard Recreation Department Karate Team at its meeting
because five members of the program and their coach, Sensei Darrell
Goodyear, will attend a first of its kind grassroots program at the U.S.
Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Co. in late November. 

 

This will be the pilot program for the Youth Olympic Development Program for
the U.S. national Karate-do Federation. Fifty youth from across the country
have been invited to participate.

 

The five athletes who will be attending this program have been undergoing a
rigorous six-week fitness program in preparation for this camp, led by
Sensei Bryan Oliver, the karate programs, strength and conditioning coach
who has twice attended the National Team Training Camps in Lake Placid, New
York. The five athletes who will be attending the program are Peter Uli,
Maci Ousset, Collin Mills, Leslie Urbeso, Ivan Lopez-Zepeda.
