Ex-St. Bernard Parish President scheduled to appear before grand jury

Former St. Bernard Parish President Henry "Junior" Rodriguez has been
subpoenaed to appear before a grand jury later this week in connection with
the federal government's probe of SDT Waste and Debris and its garbage
contracts with the parish, sources have told Eyewitness News. 

Rodriguez is expected to go before the grand jury on Thursday and was
unavailable for comment to Eyewitness News Monday. 


Under Rodriguez's administration, SDT and its owner Sidney Torres, signed a
10-year agreement to collect garbage in the parish. 


The Rodriguez administration and Torres also had a verbal agreement for SDT
to operate a waste transfer station in St. Bernard. 


Current Parish President Craig Taffaro said he has already met with the FBI
twice, the first time last March, when he told them about rising landfill
costs being billed to the parish. Taffaro said those meetings were to seek
assistance and ask the FBI for guidance.
