The 2008 St Bernard Thanksgiving Celebration began at 11 AM with a CROP Walk
in Sidney Torres Park in Chalmette. CROP stands for Communities Responding
to Overcome Poverty, and participating in CROP Walks is an easy way that
individuals and groups can come together to raise money to fight hunger.

This Thanksgiving Day, walkers in St Bernard and online supporters from
around the country raised $581.00 for hunger relief programs! 25% of the
money from the St Bernard CROP Walk will be used to buy food for the
Community Center's Mustard Seed Food Pantry in Arabi, while the rest will go
to a variety of international aid groups. THANK YOU to all the walkers,
sponsors, and volunteers who came together to make the first St Bernard CROP
Walk such a wonderful event!

This year the Community Center is proud to have worked with a wide range of
partners to prepare and serve the St Bernard Thanksgiving Meal. Thanks to
this generous support we were able to dish out over 500 turkey dinners with
all the trimmings to guests, volunteers and homebound residents - and there
was plenty left for everyone who wanted seconds (and thirds!)

In addition to some great food, participants at the Thanksgiving Meal also
enjoyed an afternoon of live musical entertainment, including performances
by well-known New Orleans musicians David & Roselyn as well as St. Bernard's
own Wes Kramer, aka "The Violet Cowboy". Mr Kramer wrote the lyrics and
music to St. Bernard Parish's official song, "Hearts in St. Bernard".

The Community Center would like to thank all of the guests, sponsors,
donors, volunteers, individuals and organizations who helped to make the
2008 St Bernard Thanksgiving Celebration a true expression of fellowship and
thankfulness. A list of sponsors is available at www.ccstb.org/thanksgiving

been included there as well.
