Suspect arrested in double murder at St. Bernard bar

St. Bernard deputies arrested a suspect they believe killed two men at a bar
in the Poydras community last night, according to a St. Bernard Parish
Sheriff's Office spokesman.

The suspect was arrested during the night, spokesman Steve Cannizaro said,
but his identity will not be released until later in the day. Deputies will
release details about the victims' identities later in the day as well, he
said.

The shooting occurred between 6 and 6:30 p.m. at the Barracuda Lounge, 7907
E. St. Bernard Highway, Cannizaro said. 

A 41-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was from out of state
and was working in the parish. The second victim, 51, was transported in
critical condition to a New Orleans hospital where he later died, Cannizaro
said. 

According to investigators, the shooting victims were at the bar when two
younger men came into the lounge, Cannizaro said. 

Ultimately, all four men went outside. Once outside, one of the young men
started shooting, Cannizaro said. The two victims ran back into the bar
where they collapsed.
