FEMA is sending an additional $1.7 million to Chalmette High School to cover
damages from Hurricane Katrina, the federal agency said in a news release.

The additional money will cover repairs to windows and flooring in the
school's gym, band building and the main campus.

"To date, we have provided over $26.1 million in public assistance grants to
ensure that CHS fully returns to its pre-Katrina condition,'' said Jim
Stark, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Louisiana
Transitional Recovery Office.

As part of the school's recovery plan, the St. Bernard Parish public school
district will redevelop the Katrina-destroyed campus of Lacoste Elementary,
which sits across the street from Chalmette High, into an expansion of the
high school.
