Christmas Cash Back event a huge success 

with almost $2,000 in giveaways at Civic Center

More than 100 residents brought retail receipts from St. Bernard businesses 

 

The first annual Christmas Cash Back event in St. Bernard Parish was a
success with more than 100 residents bringing in Christmas shopping receipts
from St. Bernard retailers. 

 

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro, who gave more than $1,200 to
the event, said it is a good start to an annual tradition of rewarding
residents for staying home to shop and supporting local businesses.

 

Holiday shoppers brought their retail receipts to the Fred Sigur Civic
Center Dec. 22 for the Economic Development Business Community Christmas.
Shoppers were awarded a ticket for each $100 of retail expenditures made at
St. Bernard businesses since Nov. 21. Besides getting tickets for multiple
drawings for cash and gift certificates, visitors were able to shop from
vendors who also participated by donating to the program.

 

President Taffaro and St. Bernard Economic Development Director Rebecca
Martin organized the event and issued a call for a sustained and concerted
local effort during this holiday buying season in response to the local
economic trends and concerns.
