[StBernard] Christmas Cash Back

I beg to disagree with you, Wes because the argument is geared toward
whether or not there was a "complete success" as touted by media. Success
these days is not met by 100 sales in a land of 40,000 people--whether or
not everyone in attendance had a nice time. I once played a gig in da parish
during the 70's when 100 people attended. We didn't believe the dance was a
complete, resounding success financially but lost money.

I doubt if da parish made money with $100 purchases on such a small scale.

The real point is whether the media is padding success to falsely attract
either future events or to show significant improvement in parish
attendance. Hell, I threw a party and over 100 came. (although no money was
exchanged and no drugs were dealt <chuckle>. I called it a significant deal
considering people were pouring from the front door onto the lawn and patio,
but it's quite different to throw a money-maker and few participated.

I've seen this same pattern in the past tourism parties where the parish's
public relations made it seem like O'bama-son on Inauguration day <yuk!)..
10,000 depicted turned out more like 1 or 2 thousand. Yet, there was much
flair about the tens of thousands in attendance.

Therefore, if one wants to throw a raffle and gets 100 in a prized pool, be
honest about it and not overplay it for political gain. We've had enough of
falsely playing it to the public in past administrations by sacrificing
honesty for press opts and propaganda. No one wants to be lied to and
believe me, the public is much too keen in their evaluation of the truth in
the press.

Having the EDC or Chamber involved is a good thing. Getting results
positively and honest reporting of it is another. The public indeed is
keener these days after facing lie after lie during and after Katrina. How
fast we have become "schooled" after being lied, cheated and abused because
of our dire ordeal.

I admit. St. Bernard Parish needs huge assistance to kick off the rest of
its life. For many, waiting decades is watching grass grow under its feet.

Merry Christmas All and hopefully, a positive, healthy new year.
