To get to St. Rita of Cascia in New Orleans (not to be confused with St.
Rita's Church in Harahan)-Take Claiborne Ave to get onto I-10 heading west
towards Metairie. Exit the I-10 at Carrollton Avenue (Exit 232) heading
towards the river (note that this exit splits and you can go towards Tulane
Avenue or the river, you want to go towards the river, not Tulane Avenue so
take the side that says Carrollton Avenue South). This exit brings you to
the middle of a shopping center (Dublin St.)so turn left when you exit and
that brings you onto Dixon St. which leads you to Carrollton Avenue. Merge
into the Carrollton Ave traffic by turning right onto Carrollton. You'll
pass through a few traffic light intersections as you head towards the
river. After you cross Earhart Blvd, you'll see the Arch. of N.O. buildings
on the left side of Carrollton. There will be another traffic light at the
end of the block of Archdiocese buildings. Th at's Walmsley St. Turn left
onto Walmsley at this traffic light. You will see Dominican High School on
the left side of Walmsley and the church on the right. You can park on the
streets around the church or in the school yard across the street on the
front side of the church building, which looks like a real church, not the
gyms and cafeteria style churches built in the 70s. Takes about 25 min. on
the weekend to get there from Chalmette if the Claiborne Bridge is down. You
can call the rectory to see which priest is saying which mass.
Be sure to notice the multimillion dollar new slate roofs on the Archdiocese
buildings when you drive by it. mvd
