The Federal Emergency Management Agency says it will send an additional $3.7
million to St. Bernard Parish to cover repair work on the grand ballroom in
the Fred Sigur Civic Center in Chalmette.

The 14,000-square-foot ballroom was swamped, along with most other
structures in St. Bernard Parish, during flooding in Hurricane Katrina in
2005.

The ballroom re-opened several months ago and has hosted a number of events,
including banquets and a community dance. Repair work included the
installation of new kitchen equipment, lighting and sound systems.

The additional money brings to $4.9 million the amount that FEMA has given
the parish for repairs to the civic center on Judge Perez Drive, FEMA said
in a news release.
