Lighting Ceremony and Grand Opening at the Hannan Field

Kick-off of soccer season; memorial tree rededicated

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro Jr., the Recreation Department
and the Parish Council held two ceremonies this week to celebrate the
progress at the football and soccer complex on the grounds of the former
Hannan High School in Meraux.

The official Soccer Season Kick-Off and Lighting Ceremony was Feb. 26 where
officials and players marked the official "lighting" of the fields to allow
for night play.

At the ceremony, President Taffaro thanked Michael Vogt of Vogt
Construction, who donated the setting of the light poles at the field, and
Livaudais Electrical and Construction, the contractor that installed the
lighting.

On Feb. 28, President Taffaro dedicated a tree in memory of Lindsay Gallo, a
16-year-old Hannan High School athlete who died of cancer in 2000. Lindsay,
the daughter was the daughter of Silvia and John Gallo of Kenilworth.

The Dogwood tree for Lindsay and a second one were both donated by the Civic
Beautification Association, a multi-parish group of garden clubs. Lindsay's
original tree had been damaged since Hurricane Katrina.
