Guide to New Orleans Public Schools
The NOLA Parents Guide contains valuable information on open public schools,
policies, school administration, how to register, and more. The new edition
includes information about several new schools coming online for the
2009-2010 school year, a simple explanation of how to apply for and enroll
in schools, updated data about schools and other new features. 

New Orleans Public Schools Common Application Process
Most public schools in New Orleans, both traditional and charter, are
banding together to offer a Common Application form and unified timeline for
parent notification and student registration. Parents who are enrolling
students in public school for the first time or who are looking for a
different public school for their children can use the Common Application
form to apply to any participating school and can also apply for multiple
schools. The application deadline is March 30, 2009.

Census Job Testing at the Community Center of St. Bernard


Anyone interested in applying for a US Census job can fill out the
employment application and take the required examination at the Community
Center of St Bernard, 1107 LeBeau St, Arabi on Wednesday afternoons
beginning on March 4. The application and examination process starts at 2:30

Road Home Appeals and Elevation Information


ROAD HOME APPEALS PROCESS
The LRA has just agreed to reopen appeals for applicants who believe their
Road Home appeal was lost in the shuffle or that they were never able to
exercise their right to appeal because their case was stuck in "Dispute
Resolution."

The LRA and OCD will review these cases to ensure that homeowners received
due process under the Road Home and that cases did not fall through the
cracks. 

For your case to be considered, you can do one of three things: 

*	Email info at louisianarecoveryauthority.org with "Road Home Appeal" in
the subject line 
*	Call (225) 342-1700 to find out how to request an appeal 
*	Mail a letter to:
	Louisiana Recovery Authority
	ATTN: Ty Larkins
	150 Third Street, Suite 200
	Baton Rouge, LA, 70801 
	(certified mail is best; save the receipt)


HMGP ELEVATION GRANTS
For applicants who received forms to apply for HMGP elevation grants, you
can still send in those forms or request another copy if you did not send it
yet.

*	If you are demolishing your house and building a new one, your HMGP
elevation grant of up to $30,000 is determined by total allowable costs for
construction and elevation minus total Road Home grant, FEMA structural
damage funds, insurance benefits, and ICC money.
*	If you are elevating and repairing your house, your HMGP elevation
grant of up to $30,000 is determined by total allowable costs for elevation
minus Road Home elevation grant and ICC money. 

For details and to determine your HMGP eligibility to start rebuilding,
contact 1-877-744-7235 or 1-225-339-3746 or hazardmitigation at la.gov. 

*Save all building plans, permits, receipts, and other proof of payment of
costs to be reimbursed by an HMGP elevation grant, should you be eligible.
