Overhead walkway construction to delay Judge Perez Drive traffic in
Chalmette

Motorists in Chalmette should expect delays on Judge Perez Drive in the
coming months as traffic is diverted around the construction of an overhead
walkway at Chalmette High School. 

Construction work was to begin this week.

The walkway will link Chalmette High School facilities on both sides of
Judge Perez Drive. The former Lacoste Elementary school is being rebuilt as
a 9th grade wing for the high school, which is on the other side of Judge
Perez Drive.

Sheriff's deputies will direct traffic through the construction zone.
Traffic flow on Judge Perez Drive through the area is expected to be reduced
to one side of the street as the work progresses.

The walkway is expected to be ready in time for school to open Aug. 12.
