Pedestrian hit by parish dumptruck in St. Bernard

A pedestrian trying to cross Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette was struck by a
parish dumptruck at about 2 p.m. Wednesday. 


State Police said the truck was trying to make a U-turn at the Campagna
Drive intersection when it hit the woman, whose name was not released.
Police say she's from New York. 

She was transported to University Hospital with what appeared to be critical
injuries, officials said.

The accident is under investigation. Parish President Craig Taffaro was on
the scene and said "Our prayers go out to this individual.''
